Family Organization Community Utilization Services (F.O.C.U.S.) helps their clients/families become their best selves by providing education and support through classes and community resources. This nonprofit was founded by Dr. Lisa A. Leveque who serves as its Executive Director. Lisa has been a teacher for many years and has served in communities covering diverse economic status. In that time, she has seen many of the same issues regardless of the family’s financial stability. The infrastructure. Lisa began this organization to meet the needs of parents who feel overwhelmed and other members who do not feel valued. She realized most families are headed by an individual who must juggle parenting with the pressures of childrearing, feeding, clothing, completing homework and many other needs. Additionally, that person must find a way not to lose “self” in the process. Children miss out on the opportunity to learn responsibility within the home and family. Older adults become overlooked as valuable entities of the family structure.
F.O.C.U.S. has a three-pronged approach for helping families to build their “village” through parent education, children’s choir, social skills classes and academic support.
F.O.C.U.S. offers classes for parenting and English as a Second Language (ESL). We also offer workshops and seminars for financial guidance and home organization, and self care. Parents/Guardians have access to classes in multiple areas:
- English as a Second Language
- Digital Literacy
- Parenting

F.O.C.U.S. helps families to build their much needed “village”, or the core structure and support system. Not all nuclear families have blood relatives nearby to pick up loose ends. F.O.C.U.S. provides opportunities for families to network with other families, provides resources to support parents, reaffirm the self-worth of the older adults and build self-esteem in children.
